My Engineering Dream

Ichi Naoto (National Institute of Technology, Tsuyama College)

Hello, everyone. I am a first year student at Tsuyama National College of Technology, majoring in Electronics and Control Engineering. Today, I would like to tell you about my Engineering dream. First, I would like to talk about why I entered National College. Second, about my everyday life. Finally, about my future. After my speech, you will understand why I am a student at National College now.

First, when I was in Junior High School, I wondered whether I should enter the local high school or National College. I was a little confused, but one thing I knew was that I liked robots very much. In Japan, there are a lot of video games, animations and cartoons on the theme of robots. Especially, one video game had a big influence on me. The game is called “Armored Core.” This is a simulation game and we can play it by changing some parts of the robots, according to the situation. In the game, these robots are so cool that I am always moved and excited. Therefore, I began to dream about building real robots. Most people have dreams as a child. Unfortunately, when I was a child, I had no dreams. However, when I met this game, I found my dream. I thought the best way to realize my dream was to enter National College. This is because National College can educate us to develop advanced technological and engineering skills. I decided to enter National College because I have to acquire high level skills as soon as possible to realize my dream.

Second, I would like to tell you about my life at National College. As you see, I am a student majoring in Electronics and Control Engineering. The purpose of my department is to intensively train students in this age of high technology. When I first entered the school, I was very nervous, but step by step I have become satisfied with everyday life. At my National College, the most surprising thing is that the school respects the students' independence. For example, we can choose elective courses and do graduation research. But we have to study many difficult courses, like linear algebra and electronic circuit design. I am not good at some subjects, but I always do my best to achieve my dream.

Third, I would like to talk about my future. As I mentioned, my dream is to build useful robots. I think the time is coming when robots will become much more a part of our daily life. I want to work as an engineer or as a researcher to build these new robots. Lately, I am especially interested in control mechanisms, for example, how to control robots' movements. In the future, I would like to enter a university to develop the knowledge and skills I got at National College. In addition, I would like to work as an engineer abroad, perhaps in Europe. At my College, we have an opportunity to go abroad for international training. So, I plan to go to Singapore to study English. I will do my best for my dream.

I have talked about my dream today. Learning about specialized subjects will become more and more difficult. However, I will do whatever I can to succeed. I hope you will see my robots in your home some time, doing something surprising. Next year, I'd like to be back here to talk about how much my dream has been realized. Thank you for your attention.
